The assembly manual instructions for the VMX12 show the positive and negative leads connected to the starter solenoid routed above the coil bracket.  In this position the insulation on the leads could be cut, which could cause a short. A short could cause the engine to stop running and the lights to fail.  To prevent this damage, use this Factory Modification Wiring Routing Kit.  Comes with instruction on how to install it.
